In Iberdrola Energía, S.A. v. Republic of Guatemala, a case heard by the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes in Washington D.C. (Case ICSID No. ARB/09/5 subject matter “Electricity distribution concession”) according to the Award of the Arbitration panel dated August 17, 2012, the Tribunal dismissed the multi-million U.S. dollars complaint filed by Spanish Iberdrola against Guatemala and ordered the Claimant to pay the Respondent the costs of the proceedings. The Republic of Guatemala was represented in this landmark case by outside counsel Alejandro Arenales, Alfredo Skinner-Klée and Rodolfo Salazar of Arenales & Skinner-Klée of Guatemala and Nigel Blackaby, Lluís Paradell, Noiana Marigo, Jean-Paul Dechamps, Lauren Friedman, Michelle Grando and Sebastian Yanine of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer US LLP.
